Baseball Defeats Illinois Institute of Technology (4/17/08)
The baseball team improved their conference record with an 8-4 win over Illinois Institute of Technology. The victory gives the Trolls a 5-8 (10-15) CCAC record and keeps them in the middle of the conference standings.
 
The Trolls’ runs came in pairs as they evenly spaced out two runs in four different innings. IIT one the other hand got all four of their runs in the middle three innings.
 
The first two runs of the game came in the first inning behind three singles. The Trolls made it 4-0  in the third inning when a double by Rob Emmons, followed by a single by Adam Hoornaertproduced two runs.
 
IIT finally got on the board in the fourth inning, and closed it to 4-2 after the top of the fifth. The Trolls answered in the bottom of the fifth as a double by Luis Gil-Sandoval sent two runners across the plate to make it 6-2.
 
The scoring gap narrowed to 6-4 after the sixth inning and stayed there until the eighth. In that inning Ryan Tevepaugh started with a double, Joe Chimenti followed with a single, and Mark Igyarto moved the runners on a sacrifice bunt. Matt Kamp then singled up the middle to bring those two runners in and make the score 8-4, the score that held until the end of the game.
 
Trinity had a total of 11 hits for the game with eight different players in the offensive action. Kamp was 3 for 4 and Joe Musolino recorded two hits. Jeff Nykerk pitched six innings for the win and Tony Perri finished the game for the save.
 
The Trolls next contest is on Saturday, April 19, when they host Calumet-St. Joseph in a noon double-header.
