Track and Field Competes at Benedictine  (4/19/08)
The track and field teams competed in the Benedictine Eagle Invitational on Saturday, April 19. The women finished in sixth place of 19 teams, scoring 47 points and setting five school records. The men scored 19 points to take 15th place of the 19 schools.
 
Erin Zielke had a great day for the Trolls as she placed in three events. She broke her own records in the 800 meter and 1500 meter. Her time of 4:478.18 won the 1500m, while she took fourth in the 800m with a 2:22.40 finish. Zielke was also the starting leg of the 4 x 400 meter relay that broke the school record (4:10.61) and finished third. The other members of that relay team were Christine Iwema, Emily Buter, and Melissa Voss.
 
Buter also won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.60. This the second straight year she took this event at this meet. Voss ran her personal best in the 400 meter (1:01.14) for a sixth place finish.
 
Katie VanderArk bested her school record in the high jump, clearing 5-03. She finished in second place in that event. Korynn Scheeringa set a school record in the 10,000 meter with a sixth place finish at 44:05.4. Ashley Biesboer gained points for the team with a seventh place (98-09) in the javelin.
 
For the men Tyler Kallemeyn was the highest place finisher at fourth in the javelin (157-01). Andy Jellema crossed the finish line in sixth place in the 10,000 meter with a time of 33:41.55 to set the school mark in that event.
 
Other individual place winners for the Trolls were Bolaji Adeoti in fifth in the 800 meter (1:59.51), Joey Lerner in eighth in the 1500 meter (4:17.39), and Josh Seegert in seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase (33:41.55). In addition those three athletes teamed up with Tony Patrick to take fifth place in the 4 x 400 meter relay (3:33.97).
 
The Trolls will compete again on Friday, April 25 at Concordia University (River Forest, IL).
