Baseball Drops Two to Calumet-St. Joseph (4/19/08)
The Trolls had a disappointing Saturday as they dropped two games to Calumet College of St. Joseph. Trinity lost the first game in eight innings, 5-7, and took a 2-4 loss in the second game. They are now 10-17 overall and 5-10 in the conference.

Calumet jumped to an early lead in game one, scoring two runs in the first inning. However the Trolls answered back in the second inning with two runs to tie the game. The Crimson Wave gained the advantage again in the fourth inning when they score twice to make it 4-2.

The Trolls found the edge in the fifth inning when they took the lead for the first time. They had three hits that inning and were able to take advantage on a couple of wild throws to score three runs to go ahead 5-4.

That one run lead held until the seventh inning when a double by Calumet scored a run to tie the game. They threatened to score even more as they loaded bases before the Trolls retired the inning. Trinity made contact with the ball in the bottom of the inning, but did not score.

In the extra inning, with two outs and a runner on first, Calumet hit a triple to score the go-ahead run. They got that batter across the plate as well to make it 7-5. The Trolls put one runner on base, but left him there with two strike-outs to end the inning and the game.

In the second game the Trolls gave up one run in the first inning, but got that back in the second inning. Calumet made gains in the fifth inning when they produced three hits on two outs to score two more runs and make it 3-1.

At the top of the seventh inning the score changed to 4-1 as Calumet hit a solo homer. In the bottom of the inning the Trolls tried to keep the game alive as they score one run. However they could not get any more and the game ended at 4-2.

For the day Trinity had a total of 12 hits, while giving up 20. Matt Kamp led the team with three hits and Rich Tameling and Ryan Tevepaugh each had two RBIs.

The Trolls will next be in action on Tuesday, April 22, at Illinois Institute of Technology at 3:30 pm.
