Softball Defeated by St. Francis  (4/21/08)
The Trolls nearly upset the University of St. Francis, the No. 2 team in the conference, in the first game of a double-header. They ended up losing the game 6-7 and then dropped the second game 0-9 in five innings. The team is now 4-19 for the year and 2-10 in the conference.
 
In game one the Trolls had a big second inning and took a 4-1 lead. They scored the first run on an error. Allison Vanderwerff kept runners moving on a hit that scored two runs. Sarah Lerner followed with another single to score one the final run of the inning.
 
A solo homer in the fourth inning brought St. Francis one run closer. However the Trolls came back with three hits and a sacrifice in the bottom to make it 6-2.
 
Saint Francis scored once in the fifth inning and then gained three more in the sixth inning to tie the game 6-6. With momentum shifting their way, the Saints got the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on a double. Trinity put runners on first and second in the bottom half of the seventh, but left them stranded as the game ended.
 
The Trolls had ten hits for the game with Sarah Lerner claiming three of those. Jenna Gesiakowski and Allison Vanderwerff each had two.
 
In the second game the Trolls fell behind early. Behind eight hits and four errors the Saints took an 8-0 lead after three innings. They gained one more run in the fifth inning and got the mercy rule shut-out at the conclusion of five.
 
The Trolls had only one hit for the game and that was a single by Allison Vanderwerff in the fourth inning.
 
The team will host Trinity International University on Tuesday, April 22, in a conference double-header at 3:00 pm.
