Track and Field Competes at NCCAA Nationals  (5/3/08)
The track and field team had the best overall team performance at the NCCAA National Championships held at Indiana Wesleyan University (IN) in the program’s history. Overall the team placed in 13 events with the women scoring 36 points for a 7th place finish and the men taking 11th place with eight points.
 
The women’s team had a very well-rounded performance, scoring in nine different events which included sprint, middle distance, hurdle, and relay races as well as jumping and throwing events.
 
Katie VanderArk became Trinity’s first ever national champion, winning the high jump with a 5-03 jump. She also had a personal best in the triple jump (34-05.5) for fourth place.
 
Erin Zielke placed in three events, two individual and one relay. Individually she took fourth in the 1500 meter (4:50.82) and fifth in the 800 meter (2:21.40) and then joined up with teammates for a sixth place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
 
The Trolls posted a trio of individual seventh places. Melissa Voss ran a personal best in the 400 meter (1:00.25), Emily Buter finished with a time of 1:09.28 in the 400 meter hurdles, and Ashley Biesboer had her best throw of the season in the javelin (105-07). The team also came together for two sixth place relay finishes. Emily Buter, Christine Iwema, Melissa Voss, and Katie VanderArk ran 52.00 in the 4 x 100 meter. Erin Zielke replaced VanderArk to join the other three to post a time of 4:13.99 in the 4 x 400 meter.
 
The men’s team place in four events. Ryker VanDrunen made a big improvement over his personal best for a fifth place toss in the discus (148-00). Bolaji Adeoti took eighth in the 800 meter (1:58.54) and Andy Jellema took eighth in the 5,000 meter (15:45.96).
 
Joey Lerner, Andy Jellema, Bolaji Adeoti, and Josh Seegert gained points with a seventh place finish in the 4 x 800 meter relay (8:18.25).
 
A few of the track team members will compete at North Central College on Friday,
May 9.
