SOFTBALL
DROPS TWO GAMES TO BETHEL COLLEGE (3/13/04)
The women's softball
team started their "home" debut against Bethel College. Although the Trolls
were the home team they played on the neutral turf of Moraine Valley Community
College due to field conditions. The Trolls were not successful in their
double header as they lost both game, 2-12 and 3-8.
In the first
game of the double header Bethel jumped to early lead as they scored 2
runs in the first and 1 run in the second to go ahead 3-0. They grabbed
4 more runs behind 5 hits in the 4th inning to go ahead 7-0. The Trolls
finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of that inning as they scored
their first runs of the season. Erica Bruner got on base with a
walk and then Stephanie Koedyker hit a homer to drive the runs in.
That was the last of the Trolls scoring in the game as Bethel got one run
in the 5th, one run in the 6th, and 3 in the 7th to win the game.
In the second
game the Trolls gave up a run in the first inning, but came back nicely
with 3 hits in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead. Bethel slowly
fought back in and by the end of the 5th inning were ahead 5-3. A couple
of fielding errors in the 6th inning gave Bethel 3 more runs. The Trolls
tried to rally back but were unable to put any more runs on the board.
Overall the Trolls
had 6 hits in the double header. Koedyker gets credit for 3 of those
hits. The Trolls committed a total of 13 errors in the 2 games. Michelle
Wories picked the first game and struck out 3 batters and Vicki
Fennema pitched game two with 5 strike outs.
The Trolls are
next in action on March 17 with a home double header with Prairie State
College at 3:00 pm.
