SOFTBALL
TAKES TWO OVER WHEATON COLLEGE (3/20/04)
The softball
team picked up their first wins of the season as they defeated Wheaton
College (IL) in both games of a double header. The Trolls grabbed a 5-2
win in the first game and a 15-8 win in the second game. The team is now
2-7 for the season.
Up until today
the team had struggled from the plate, but that was not the case as they
produced a total of 21 hits in these two games. The team also set a school
record for most home runs in a single game with 4. Stephanie Koedyker
and Michelle Cooke also tie the school record for home runs in a
single game as both had 2 in the second game. In all Cooke ended with 3
homers for the day.
In the first
game the Trolls were up 1-0 in the 4th inning when singles by Cooke,
Michelle Wories, and Amber Heaney drove in 2 runs. With
two outs in the 6th inning Jill Olson got on base with a hit before
Cooke
homered to bring in those 2 runs. Wories pitched the 7 innings of
the game with just 5 hits and one earned run.
In the second
game the Trolls came up big in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Three of the homers
for the game were hit in those innings to help produce 8 runs. Then again
in the 5th and 6th innings the Trolls scored 7 more runs. In all 7 players
got hits for the game as Amanda Wilkins and Koedyker each
had 3. Vicki Fennema pitched 5.1 innings for the win and Wories
