BASEBALL
OPENS SEASON (3/20/04)
After
a week of canceled games the Trolls finally opened their 2004 season on
Saturday. The opener was a double header against conference powerhouse
Olivet Nazarene University (IL). The Trolls were not able to pick up a
win, but were glad to get their season underway. The Trolls lost both games,
0-10 and 9-11.
Olivet Nazarene
already had 20 games completed by the time the Trolls wandered into their
field for their debut. That experience showed in the first game as the
Trolls managed only one hit (by Kale Hoyt) and were defeated 0-10
after 5 innings. They changed things around in the second game as they
got their bats going and connected for 13 hits that game. Freshman Aaron
VanByssum made good use of his bat as he hit two home runs. Hoyt
was also able to produce one homer to go along with his 2 other hits. Joel
DeRuiter picks up the loss with as he pitched 3.1 innings, giving up
10 runs.
The team will
play next on March 22 at home against IU-Northwest in a double header at
1:00 pm.
