SOFTBALL CONTINUES WINNNING WAYS    (3/25/04)

The softball team has not lost a game in their last 6 outings. They played at Dominican University (IL) and picked up a 5-4 win in the first game and a 1-1 tie in the second game. The second game ended after 6 innings due to darkness. The Trolls are now 5-7-1 for the season.

Scoring came late in the first game as the bats were slow to come around. The Trolls managed only one hit in the first 4 innings while Dominican had 2. Things changed in the 5th inning as a triple by Gail Landini followed by a double by Amber Heaney gave the Trolls 2 runs. They started the 6th inning with 3 straight hits, a single by Erica Bruner, a double by Stephanie Koedyker, and a triple by Michelle Cooke to set them up for 3 runs that inning. The Trolls were leading 5-0 going into the bottom of the 7th. With two outs and bases loaded Dominican got a triple followed by a double to drive in 4 runs. The Trolls were able to control the damage and retire the inning to take the win.

Dominican was the first to strike in the second game as they picked up one run in the 2nd inning. The Trolls did not get a hit until the 5th inning and did not score until the 6th inning. Michelle Wories opened the 6th with a double to get on base. A sacrifice by Courtney Krasoczka moved her around and then a connection by Amanda Wilkins brought the run home. The Trolls held Dominican in the bottom of the inning. The game ended in a tie as the game was called due to darkness.
