SOFTBALL
SPLITS WITH TRINITY INTERNATIONAL (4/13/04)
The softball
team hosted Trinity International University (IL) in a conference double
header. The Trolls let the first game get away from them, 5-6, but come
back in the second game to grab a 7-1 victory. With the split Trinity Christian
is now 9-19-1 for the season and 4-4 in the conference. The team is half
way through their conference schedule.
The Trolls got
off to a rocky start in the first game as Trinity International capitalized
on fielding errors to jump to a 3-0 lead. A home run by Erica Bruner
in the 2nd inning gave the team 2 runs. TIU had their own 2 run homer in
the 4th to make the score 5-2. A couple of good hits in the 5th inning
allowed the Trolls to close the gap to 5-4. Trinity International made
things difficult in the 7th inning by adding one more run on a solo homer.
In the bottom of that inning Jill Olson got on base with a hit.
Two outs later Stephanie Koedyker drove a ball to center field to
bring Olson across the plate. Koedyker was then tagged out
as she rounded the second to end the game.
The second game
gave the Trolls a win and put them in the record books. A solo homer for
Koedyker in the 2nd inning gave her 6 home runs for the season and
ties the school record for individual season home runs. Gail Landini
then hit a two run homer in the 4th inning to give the team a total
of 14 homers for the season, which breaks the previous school record of
13. In all the team had 8 hits for the game and scored in every inning
but the first.
The team will
play next on Wednesday at home against Cardinal Stritch University (WI)
at 3:00 pm.
