SOFTBALL
SHUT OUT BY SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY (4/21/04)
Because of the
rain the softball team waited one extra day to play Saint Xavier University,
only to find that it still was a gloomy day. The Trolls played well against
this top CCAC team in the first game and lost only 1-0. The second game
was a different story as the Trolls lost 0-18. The two losses brings the
teams record to 13-21-1 overall and 8-6 in the conference.
The only run
of the first game was a solo homer in the first at bat for Saint Xavier.
After that the Trolls did well defensively and held SXU to only 5 runs
and not many scoring opportunities. Unfortunately the Trolls could not
get the bats going and went without a hit in that game.
In the second
game of the day the wheels fell off for the Trolls as they gave up 18 runs
on 18 hits. Saint Xavier scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning, 6 in the 3rd
inning, 5 in the 4th inning, and 1 in the 5th inning. The game ended after
the 5th inning on the mercy rule. The Trolls managed only 3 hits for the
game with Jill Olson grabbing 2 of those.
The team will
play on Thursday at home against the University of St. Francis at 3:00
pm.
