BASEBALL
SPLITS WITH PURDUE-NORTH CENTRAL (4/22/04)
The Trolls pick
up their second conference win of the season as they split the double header
results with Purdue-North Central. The Trolls took the first game 7-4 and
then lost the second game 2-3. The team is now 6-19 for the season and
2-11 in their conference race.
The Trolls were
the first on the board in game one as Darren DeBoer's single brought
in one run in the first inning. Purdue-North Central took away that lead
in the 2nd inning as they scored 2 runs. A good 5th inning for the Trolls
produced 4 hits and 5 runs. Back to back doubles by Andrew Van Byssum
and Kale Hoyt provided a majority of the runs in that inning. In
the bottom of the inning PNC made it 5-2. Van Byssum, Hoyt, and
Luke Post all singled for 2 more runs in the 7th inning. Although
the team gave up one more run, they held on for the 7-4 win. Dan Herder
pitched all 7 innings for the win.
The Trolls' two
runs for the second game came in the first inning as players got on base
with walks. That lead did not last long as PNC tied the game in the bottom
of the inning. The 2-2 score held until the 4th inning when the opponent
scored one more time. The Trolls failed to get runners in scoring positions
for the rest of the game and took the loss. The team had 4 hits for the
game with Joel DeRuiter and Dan Herder each grabbing two.
The team will
play next on Saturday, April 25, in a home double header against Calumet
College of St. Joseph starting at noon.
