SOFTBALL
DROPS TWO TO SAINT FRANCIS (4/22/04)
In their final
conference games the Trolls hosted the University of St. Francis (IL) in
a double header. The Trolls lost the first game, 2-8, and despite a record
breaking homerun by Stephanie Koedyker in the second game, the Trolls
let the second game slip away, 4-6, in the 7th inning. The team is now
13-23-1 for the season and 8-8 in the conference. The team will wait to
play in the conference tournament on May 5-8.
The Trolls never
led in the first game; in fact they were down 5-2 before they got on the
board. The only runs of the game for TCC came in the 6th inning as Erica
Bruner got on base and Michelle Wories hit a homerun to bring
them home. The team had 8 hits for the game with Courtney Krasoczka
going 3 for 4 and Michelle Cooke 2 for 4.
St. Francis opened
the second game with a solo homer to be followed with one other run. They
managed 2 more runs in the 4th inning. The Trolls had a great bottom half
of that inning to tie the game. Koedyker started the inning by breaking
the school record for homeruns in a season as she hit her 7th of the year.
The rally was continued as Bruner, Angela Miller, and Amber
Heaney all got on base. Amanda Wilkins blasted a shot to right
field to score 2 runs and Krasoczka followed with a hit for the
tying run. It was not until the 7th inning that a couple of hits gave St.
Francis 2 more runs. That was enough as the Trolls were 3 up and 3 down
in the bottom of the inning.
The Trolls will
host the NCCAA Regional tournament on Friday and Saturday. Action starts
at 10:00 am on Friday and the Trolls play at noon against Bethel.
