BASEBALL
SWEEPS CALUMET COLLEGE (4/24/04)
The baseball
team hosted Calumet College of St. Joseph in a double header and picked
up two wins over this conference opponent. The Trolls took the first game
8-4 and then grabbed the second one 7-2. The wins give the team an 8-19
overall record and a 4-11 conference record.
In the first
game Trolls used the 2nd inning to propel them to a win. Trailing 0-1 at
that point the team was patient as the plate and took walks for a couple
of runs. With bases loaded Kale Hoyt hit a triple for 3 more runs
to make the total 5 after that inning. Calumet gained on the Trolls in
the 5th inning as they scored 2 runs. However a double by Dan Herder,
single by Andrew Van Byssum, and triple by Luke Post were
enough to add 3 more runs in the 6th inning to bring the team's total to
7. Calumet scored once in the 7th before the game ended.
The Trolls took
advantage of a struggling pitcher early in the game and walked across the
plate for 4 runs in the first 2 innings. A couple of hits along with heads
up base running in the 4th inning gave the Trolls 2 more runs and a 6-0
lead. Aaron Werkman's triple in the 6th inning produce one more
TCC run. The shut out was ended in the bottom of that inning as Calumet
scored 2 runs.
The Trolls will
play next on Monday against Trinity International University in a double
header at 2:00 pm. This contest is a continuation of a suspended game from
April 20.
