SOFTBALL
HOSTS THE NCCAA REGION TOURNAMENT (4/23-24/04)
Trinity Christian
College was the host site for the NCCAA North Central Region Tournament.
The Trolls were one of four teams in the double elimination tournament.
They entered the event as the #4 seed and left the event in 3rd place.
In the first game of action they lost to the #1 seed Bethel College (IN),
14-0. They came back in the next game and defeated #3 Trinity International
University, 5-3. The Trolls opened day two with a repeat match-up against
Bethel and lost that game, 10-1. With that second loss the team was knocked
out of the tournament. Olivet Nazarene University (IL) went on to claim
the championship.
In the first
game against Bethel the Trolls gave up 15 hits and committed 3 errors to
allow Bethel to score 14 runs. Seven of those runs came in the top of the
7th inning. The Trolls only had 4 hits, 2 of which went to Jill Olson.
The Trinity International
game was tied 2-2 after the 3rd inning. It stayed at that score through
the remainder of regulation play. In the top of the 8th inning the Trolls
got on base with a couple of hits. Both Michelle Cooke and Stephanie
Koedyker put the ball in play to reach base and advanced one runner
past home plate. Erica Bruner then hit a double that scored those
two runners. TIU picked up one run on a solo homer, but that was all as
the game ended 5-3.
Both Trinity
Christian and Bethel scored one run in the 1st inning in their second match-up.
The Trolls then faltered in the 2nd inning and Bethel poured in 8 runs
to take a commanding lead. The Trolls could not rally back and before it
was all finished Bethel had scored one more to make the final 10-1 after
5 innings.
Four players
from Trinity Christian were named to the All-Region Team. Congratulations
to Stephanie Koedyker, Erica Bruner, Michelle Cooke,
and Courtney Krasoczka.
The Trolls will
play next on Monday, April 26, at North Central College (IL) in a 3:30
pm double header.
