SOFTBALL
VICTORIOUS OVER ELMHURST COLLEGE (4/28/04)
The softball
team countered two losses earlier this week with two wins in the mid-week
contest. The Trolls hosted Elmhurst College in a non-conference double
header and won the games, 8-2, 2-0. With team is now 16-27-1 for the season
with just one regular season date left.
A number of players
provided the firepower at the plate as the Trolls had 11 hits for their
8 runs in the first game. Michelle Cooke led the way as she went
4 for 4 including a 2-run homer. She was not the only one with a homerun
as Michelle Wories (2 for 3) also sent one over the fence to score
3 runs in the 5th inning. The Trolls were leading 3-2 after the 4th inning.
It looked as if it might be a shut out until a dropped fly ball in the
5th inning allowed Elmhurst to score 2 runs. The team responded with 5
runs in the bottom of that inning for the 8-2 win.
Fighting the
wind as much as each other, the teams battled in the second game. Although
both teams got runners on base, the game remained scoreless after 5 innings.
In the bottom of the 6th inning Cooke and Stephanie Koedyker
singled to get on base. A fielding error put Gail Landini on first,
thus loading the bases. Courtney Krasoczka and Angie Miller
each moved those runners around to score 2 runs. The Trolls retired the
first 3 batters in the top of the 7th inning and the game ended with the
2-0 win.
The team will
play next on Saturday at 11:00 am in a double header against Mount Mary
College.
