SOFTBALL
COMES UP EMPTY IN FLORIDA (4/3/04)
On their spring
break trip in Florida the women's softball team found plenty of games,
but few wins. The team played 4 double headers for the week, but could
not grab a win. The team had been on a roll before the trip started as
they had not lost in their last 6 attempts, but now drop to 5-15-1 for
the season.
The Trolls started
their action at St. Thomas University (Miami, FL) and lost both of those
games 0-5, 1-3. The next day of competition was at Northwood University
(West Palm Beach, FL) and the Trolls let those games slip away 2-4, 1-4.
In the first game of that double header the score was tied 2-2 before fielding
errors in the 6th inning cost the Trolls a couple of runs. The following
day they played Nova Southeastern University (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and were
shut out in game one 0-8, and lost game two 2-6. The final double header
of the trip was played at Palm Beach Atlantic University (West Palm Beach,
FL) and the Trolls lost both of those games 07, 2-10.
For the week
the team struggled at the plate with a .186 batting average. Jill Olson
was the most accurate hitter with a .292 BA with 7 hits. Gail Landini
connected for 5 hits, including a double. Michelle Wories and
Vicki Fennema split the pitching duties as each pitched 4 games.
Fennema had a 3.25 ERA and Wories had a 4.70 ERA for the
week.
The team will
play on April 6 in a non-conference double header at home against Concordia
University at 3:00 pm.
