LOSES TO OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY (4/6/04)
The Trolls hosted
conference opponent Olivet Nazarene University (IL) in a non-conference
match-up. The Trolls contained the No. 11 NAIA nationally ranked ONU Tiger
for a few innings, but faltered in the late innings. The end result was
an 11-1 loss after 7 innings. The Trolls are now 4-10 for the season.
For the first
innings of the game the Trolls held Olivet and were holding their own.
After 4 innings of play the score was 2-1 in favor of Olivet. The Trolls
lone score came in the 3rd inning as Andrew Van Byssum send a ball
over the fence for a solo homer. The Trolls started to fade in the
5th inning as they gave up 2 runs. Olivet picked up 3 more in the 6th and
4 in the 7th to widen the gap to 11-1. The Trolls had the opportunity to
keep the game alive in the bottom of the 7th. They had 2 runners on base
before the inning retired and the game ended.
The team ended
with just 3 hits for the game, one for Van Byssum, one for Adam
McIntyre, and one for Dan Herder. Aaron Werkman pitched
for 5.1 innings and gets the loss on the mound.
The team will
play on April 7 at the University of St. Francis in a conference game at
3:00 pm.
