SOFTBALL
SPLITS WITH ROBERT MORRIS COLLEGE
(4/7/04)
The softball
team played a home double header against conference opponent Robert Morris
College (IL). The Trolls walked away with one win and one loss in
the outing. The first game was a 3-7 loss, but the Trolls came back in
the second game to win 9-8 in the 7th inning. The team is now 8-16-1 overall
and 3-1 in the conference.
In the first
game the Trolls took the early lead as they scored behind an Amber Heaney
double in the 2nd inning. That lead soon changed in the 3rd inning
as the Trolls committed 4 errors to allow 4 runs. Two home runs in the
4th inning gave RMC 3 more runs. The Trolls answered in the bottom
of the inning with a home run of their own by Stephanie Koedyker.
Doubles by Amanda Wilkins and Courtney Krasoczka gave the
Trolls a final run as the game ended at 3-7.
The second game
brought a lot of 3rd inning action. Entering that inning Robert Morris,
who held a 1-0 lead, punched out 6 hits to score 5 runs. The Trolls were
not going to give in and came back with 6 hits of their own for 5 runs.
In the 5th inning the Trolls went ahead as Koedyker hit a double,
followed by a home run by Erica Bruner. The lead did not last long
as RMC scored once in the 6th to tie the game, and opened the 7th with
a homer to go ahead, 8-7. Michelle Cooke opened the bottom of 7th
with a base hit. Gail Landini got on base with a walk and Koedyker
loaded them with a single. Bruner then drove in a run on a single
to tie the game. Michelle Wories stepped to the plate to pinch hit
and did the job as she sent a ball into the outfield for the game winning
run.
The Trolls ended
the day with 25 hits. They had 2 homeruns, bringing their season total
to 10. The leaders were Koedyker with 5 hits and Cooke and
Wilkins with 4 each.
The team will
play on April 8 at Olivet Nazarene University (IL) for a double header
at 3:00 pm.
