SOFTBALL
DROPS DOUBLE HEADER TO OLIVET NAZARENE (4/8/04)
The softball
team faced the NAIA No. 10 Olivet Nazarene University (IL) in a conference
double header. The first game was a close 4-3 loss, but the second game
was a 13-3 defeat. The Trolls are now 8-18-1 for the season and 3-3 in
the conference.
In the first
game the Trolls faltered in fielding and a few errors cost them one run
in the 1st inning and one run in the 2nd inning. They came back in the
top of the 4th inning and tied the game 2-2. Erica Bruner singled
to get on base and Michelle Wories followed her with a walk. A double
by Amber Heaney drove in one run and a single by Amanda Wilkins
brought in the second one. The Trolls then went ahead in the top of the
6th as a triple by Heany brought Wories across the plate. Olivet
made up for that run plus one in the bottom of the inning as they put together
back to back doubles to score 2. The Trolls last effort in the 7th to keep
the game alive fell short.
In the second
game the Trolls played catch-up from the beginning. By the end of the 3rd
inning they were down 2-5. Olivet cranked out 5 more runs in the 4th inning
to go ahead 2-10. The Trolls stayed alive in the 5th inning by scoring
on a solo homer by Stephanie Koedyker. Olivet put an end to things
in the bottom of the inning as a 3-run homer ended the game on the mercy
rule.
In all the Trolls
had 16 hits for the day with Heaney grabbing 4 of those and Bruner
claiming 3. Wories pitched all 6 innings of the first game and
gets that loss while Vicki Fennema gets the loss in game 2.
The Trolls will
play this weekend at Millikin University (IL) at 10:00 am.
