BASEBALL STRUGGLES AGAINST JUDSON COLLEGE    (4/8/04)

In a non-conference double header against Judson College (Elgin, IL) the Trolls suffered two 5- inning losses due to the 10-run mercy rule. The Trolls had lost to Judson earlier this season in their conference match-ups with scores of 3-4 and 1-3. This time the final scores were not that close as the Trolls lost, 17-1 and 12-2.  The team is now 4-12 for the season and has lost their last 6 games.

The Trolls trailed immediately in the first game as Judson put 8 runs on the board in the first 2 innings. TCC had only one run in that period as a Joel DeRuiter, who singled to get on base, was brought in by an Aaron Werkman triple. The 4th inning did the Trolls in as they gave up 7 hits and 9 runs to fall behind 17-1. They did not produce any runs in the 5th inning so the game ended there. DeRuiter ended with 2 hits for the game. Keith Schwartz got the loss on the mound.

Again in game 2 the Trolls gave up some early runs as Judson scored 4 in the 1st inning. The only runs of the game for TCC came in the second inning as Jon dePeralta doubled to drive in two runs.  Judson scored twice in the bottom of that inning, twice in the 4th, and 4 times in the 5th inning to end the game in that inning with just 2 outs. DeRuiter is credited with the pitching loss.

The team plays next on Saturday, April 10, in a conference double header at home against Robert Morris College (IL) at 12:00 pm.
