BASEBALL
ENDS SEASON WITH LOSSES TO UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO (5/8/04)
The baseball
season came to a close as the Trolls lost (10-0, 17-7) both games of a
double header to the University of Chicago. With these non-conference losses
the team wraps up their season with a final record of 9-25. The Trolls
did not advance to post-season play-offs.
A rocky 3rd inning
in the first game was enough to do the Trolls in. Trailing 2-0 at that
point the team gave up 8 runs in that 3rd inning. Meanwhile the Trolls
managed five hits but could not get the runners in scoring positions. The
10-0 lead after 5 innings was enough to end the game on the mercy rule.
In the second
game the there was more scoring by the Trolls. Unfortunately there was
also more scoring by the opponent. The University of Chicago picked up
4 runs in the first and 2 runs in the 2nd. The Trolls were able to find
runs here and there as they scored in 6 different innings, but they could
not get a rally going. One of the runs came as a solo homer by Kale
Hoyt in the 4th inning. The opponent started strong and finished
strong as they picked up 11 runs in the final two innings for the large
margin victory.
The Trolls bid
farewell to and thank four year player Luke Post and congratulate
Kale Hoyt on being named All-Conference Honorable Mention.
