STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

microscope cellThroughout the year assessment data is gathered through student and alumni surveys, standardized exams, and course-embedded assessments (seminar, laboratory courses, independent research). The following outcomes show areas where our students have excelled in their studies of Biology.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in general biology and in their area of specialization in order to succeed in careers and graduate programs
  • Demonstrate skill with the operation of the basic scientific instruments necessary for biological investigations such as microscopes, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis equipment and pH meters
  • Apply basic experimental design and research techniques including use of controls and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to locate, read and evaluate the scientific literature, particularly in their areas of interest. This includes traditional and web-based resources
  • Skillfully communicate scientific information in written and oral formats
