STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Throughout the year assessment data is gathered through student and alumni surveys, standardized exams, and course-embedded assessments (seminar, laboratory courses, independent research). The following outcomes show areas where our students have excelled in their studies of Biology.
- Demonstrate proficiency in general biology and in their area of specialization in order to succeed in careers and graduate programs
- Demonstrate skill with the operation of the basic scientific instruments necessary for biological investigations such as microscopes, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis equipment and pH meters
- Apply basic experimental design and research techniques including use of controls and statistical analysis.
- Ability to locate, read and evaluate the scientific literature, particularly in their areas of interest. This includes traditional and web-based resources
- Skillfully communicate scientific information in written and oral formats
