PROGRAM STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Throughout the year assessment data is gathered through student and alumni surveys, growth portfolio, field experience evaluations, and a major field test to determine how well the program is meeting its student learning outcomes. The following outcomes show areas where our students have excelled in their studies of English and English education.
- Articulate analytically and creatively from a Reformed Christian perspective the role that language plays in creating a literary vision of the world
- Analyze the elements of a text, interpret the significance of its contexts, and evaluate its worldview
- Identify major works of British and American literature and analyze the genre-specific conventions associated with them
- Recognize various works of the literature of diversely ethnic groups, races, nations, and genders and analyze and articulate the issues involved with their creation and reception
- Assess the role of literary works in the larger public sphere that is the context for disciplinary and worldview questions
