Office of the First Year ExperienceWe desire that you find belonging, explore the breadth of opportunity and begin to understand your purpose as you begin your journey at Trinity Christian College. Our office coordinates First Year Forum (FYF 101) and Framing Your Future (FYF 111), 1-credit courses that welcome and introduce all new students to the Christ-centered academic community at Trinity. We also provide support to the campus-wide effort to transition new students, promoting integration of programs to better serve the needs of first year students. And, we serve as a contact point for parents and families — valued partners in each student’s educational journey. First Year Forum and Framing Your FutureAll new students take either First Year Forum (FYF 101) or Framing Your Future (FYF 111). These courses are held as soon as you get to campus, even before your other classes start. We seek to introduce you to Trinity's distinctive vision and the educational opportunities that are yours at Trinity, acquaint you with other people who are joining the Trinity community, and equip you with the information and connections for making the most of your Trinity Christian College experience. FYF is taught in small groups of about 20 students by a student mentor and a faculty mentor. The student mentors are trained group dynamics, outreach, transitional issues and the FYF curriculum. They are students who are selected because of their enthusiasm for Trinity and for welcoming new students into this Christian academic community. They continue to support the students in their FYF group throughout the first semester. Rising sophomores through seniors are encouraged to apply for this unique leadership opportunity in the spring semester. Spring 2010 Week One Assignment Program IntegrationThe Office of the First Year Experience seeks to assist the Trinity community in shaping existing and new programs and services to serve the educational and transitional needs of new students. Our hope is that the experience inside and outside of the classroom creates belonging, provides opportunities and helps develop purpose. We welcome ideas and feedback about your Trinity experience.
