Study Focus
 By means of the semester program, students will:
1. Gain unique insight into Ecuadorian culture and see how God is at work in another part of His world
2. Learn and/or improve Spanish literacy skills
3. Acquire cross-cultural understandings and skills through courses and a cross-cultural practicum experience
4. Participate in a short-term ministry trip
Courses
History, Politics, and Culture of Ecuador: This course provides an overview of the history, politics, and culture of Ecuador, along with the relationship between various factors. It includes guest speakers from local organizations and visits to community groups, along with lecture and readings. (3 hrs)
Field Experience in Ecuador: Field experience credit is granted to students who participate in the Semester in Ecuador program. Students will work with a local organization (e.g., business, church, artistic, non-profit group) and participate in a two-week mission trip. Since the field experience course may or may not meet the requirements of the student’s major, each student should check with his/her adviser when considering the program. (6 hrs)
Spanish Language: Students take a Spanish language course from a local Spanish language institute. Level of course depends on Spanish proficiency. A minimum of one year in Spanish is strongly recommended.
