Physics: Adjunct Professor in Physics – Classical Mechanics, Spring 2015
Adjunct faculty needed to teach an advanced physics class on classical mechanics beginning January 22, 2015. This is an upper level course that will build upon the classical mechanics learned in the first semester of college physics. Although classical mechanics is an incomplete theory which has been supplanted by quantum mechanics and general relativity in the 20th century, it is extremely important to understand classical mechanics. Non-relativistic quantum mechanics, for example, is built upon the Hamiltonian formulation of classical mechanics, and many of the mathematical techniques developed in this course will be used repeatedly in other physics courses. A strong foundation in classical mechanics will help to better understand fields such as quantum mechanics, relativity, and chaos theory. This class is currently scheduled to be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 – 9:20 a.m., but could possibly be taught at another time or in the evenings, depending on student’s availability.
Ph.D. strongly preferred; Master’s degree required. Previous collegiate teaching experience desired. Trinity seeks candidates for faculty positions who are professing Christians and committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. They should support the goals of a strong liberal arts education in the tradition of Reformed Christian higher education and be competent to demonstrate to students a mature articulation of faith and learning. Faculty members are also dedicated to personal involvement with students outside the classroom in advising, social interaction, and informal academic and cultural settings.
Formal review of applications will begin on March 15, 2014 but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. All inquiries should be directed to:
