Aviles
Assistant Professor of Church & Ministry Leadership The church & ministry leadership department welcomed Pedro Aviles of Chicago, Illinois, in the fall of 2005. Aviles and his family live in the inner-city Hispanic community of Humboldt Park in Chicago, which is "his kind of town." He describes himself as an urban Puerto Rican follower of Christ. Aviles has been pastor at Grace and Peace Fellowship, an urban church in the near northwest side of Chicago, for 22 years. The pastor's interests include music, reading fantasy and sci-fi books, fishing, worship, and indigenous leadership development, all of which are illuminated by the different degrees he has earned. He has obtained a bachelor's degree in interpersonal communication from Trinity International University and a master's in church ministry and leadership. Moreover, he is presently seeking his doctorate in mission leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary in California. Pedro has had a full career. In addition to his pastoral experience, Aviles has served as an interim principal of Humboldt Community Christian School and as a campus minister with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. He describes his wife, Diana, and his 3 children - Elisabet (20), Mariana (18), and Andres (7) -- as the expression God's "Caribbean Salsa." |
