Professional and Personal Interests

Barbara Timmermans came to Trinity Christian College with her husband, President Steven Timmermans, in 2003. She quickly made her mark on the College’s nursing program.

“I teach at Trinity because I love to teach the discipline of nursing from a Christian perspective.”

Timmermans believes learning is equally the responsibility of students and faculty. She loves it when she gets a good classroom discussion going.

“This indicates to me that students have prepared for class and that the material is meaningful to them. I also enjoy good student presentations, which show student mastery of content at a deeper level than the usual classroom discussion.”

Timmermans received her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. in health education at the University of New Mexico. Her areas of expertise are maternity nursing and community health nursing.

“My main goal for teaching at Trinity is to educate professional nurses who are able to integrate their faith into their vocation and bring God’s shalom to a hurting world.”

Timmermans also enjoys reading, walking, and playing the piano. She and her husband have four children: Katie, Paul, Rebecca, and Jessica. They live in Palos Heights, Illinois, and attend Loop Christian Ministries.
