Professional and Personal Interests

Few things about pregnancy, birth, and related issues surprise Mary Kostrzak-Wise, a 1994 Trinity nursing graduate. Her education and experience working with expectant mothers and at-risk infants in Chicago area hospitals laid the groundwork for her role as an assistant professor in Trinity’s nursing department.

Kostrzak-Wise, who earned a M.S.N. at Lewis University, Romeoville, Illinois, has presented numerous papers focusing on varied aspects of fetal development, assessment, and monitoring throughout her education. She has participated in a medical malpractice case and worked in maternity and neonatal intensive care units in local hospitals, including Palos Community Hospital and Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.

When asked to join the faculty at Trinity, she jumped at the opportunity to return to her alma mater. The Lemont resident is excited about working with Trinity nursing students to help them realize the many different career paths available to graduates of the program. Her aim is straightforward: to present material in a variety of ways that can address different learning styles so students can excel.

Kostrzak-Wise appreciated the quality of education she received as an undergraduate at the College, and sees Trinity’s strength as offering students “personal attention in a Christian setting.” That approach served her well, as she received many awards and scholarships on her way to earning her M.S.N.

A member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, Kostrzak-Wise also finds time to serve her community. She is a PTA member of District #113 in Lemont, volunteers as a Vacation Bible School leader at her church, and was a Cub Scout Den Leader. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys playing volleyball and spending time with her two children.
