Professional and Personal Interests

Laurel Quinn loves nursing and teaching. Early in her career, she decided she would be happiest doing both. Her path to nursing began as a switchboard operator and receptionist for nine doctors and as a Candy Stripe volunteer at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. She entered Evangelical School of Nursing in Chicago and began working as a nursing assistant on medical and surgical units. From there, Quinn transferred to St. Xavier University in Chicago so she could eventually teach nursing. Then along came an offer she could not resist.

“I was one of four nurses selected from across the United States who was offered the opportunity to move to California to attend the neonatal nurse clinician program at the University of California-Irvine.”

After completing the program, Quinn attended Loma Linda University in California for her master’s degree in parent/child health. During an earthquake, she received a call from Evangelical School of Nursing to return to Chicago and teach pediatric nursing. She taught there for nine years until the school closed, then accepted a teaching position at St. Xavier, where she instructed for 10 years.

In 2004, Quinn accepted a nursing education position at Trinity Christian College where she takes a personal interest in her students.

“Seeing the students begin their nursing career and where their own personal journey leads them in the nursing profession is what satisfies me the most.”

When she is not teaching, Quinn enjoys maintaining trees and a garden, quilting, knitting, reading, traveling, photography, piano, and music. She and her husband, William, live in Peotone, Illinois.
