The end of the tour was delightful. Worship at Federated Fellowship and Calvary CRC in Pella, Iowa, was joyous, and Pella Christian High School's chapel was so great. Andy (class of ’08) and Karlie (class of ’09) felt welcomed back at their alma mater, the students worshipped the Lord and sang out, and it was a great way to end the tour.
Thank you to all who hosted, prayed for us, and supported us on the tour. We as a team learned a lot about each other, about God, and about leading worship. It was an unforgettable experience, and we're all so thankful we got to be a part of this! Thank you Trinity and most of all, thank you to our Savior Jesus Christ for giving us these great things to sing about--his grace and his love for us!
Saturday, January 14
We have three events left on the tour. We traveled from Contra Costa Christian High School in Walnut Creek, California, on Wednesday and drove to Elko, Nevada (8 hrs). Then we drove 11 hours to Denver, Colorado. We had a delicious meal with Brittany's parents provided. A night’s rest and another gig at Denver Christian High, and we talked in a chapel/worship class in the afternoon. It was a blessing to be at Brittany's alma mater and work with her dad on scheduling and setting up since he teaches there. It was also wonderful to see my cousin Jacob since he is there at DC! Some of my relatives came, and some of Brittany's came too. Also, Derek's cousin and good friend of ours, Ben de Nooy came! Great to see people we love and worship with them this morning!
The team sends their greetings from Ripon, California…
One day, two chapels, three set-ups later we (the boys) are relaxing at the Vos residence in Ripon enjoying our guest area for the evening. Today was pretty jam packed but we had the least driving to do today which was a welcome relief after traveling for 4+ hours most other days. We started off the day playing at Central Valley Christian where we enjoyed the stage lights and high quality inhouse sound system. Aaron met some cousins afterwards, and we talked to some alumni (Laruen Haney '11 and Alyssa De Groot '09).
10:30 a.m. California time!
We enjoyed Phoenix Christian chapel yesterday. The kids were singing along pretty well! Mr. Pete Hamstra was with us yesterday, and he was living it up in his alma mater since he set track records at Phoenix Christian. We had students fill out cards, and they fed us pizza. We drove six hours to our hotel in Irvine, CA. The hotel was super nice, and we got to enjoy our first In-N-Out (hamburger) experience and LOVED it. Vince wants to eat it every day while in California.
After 3 days, 24 hours, 5 states, and 1,700 miles, the crew finally made it to Rehoboth, New Mexico, and got to bust out our instruments and play for the youngsters. The drive to Rehoboth from Denver was quite scenic and most enjoyable. This morning we got the privilege to play for both the middle school and the high school chapels. Both of chapels went well, and it felt great to finally get to worship and do what we set out to do.
The tour is officially beginning tomorrow with our first chapels for the middle school and high school on Thursday (tomorrow)! We enjoyed (sarcastic) the long 11 hrs from Iowa to Denver yesterday where we enjoyed a delicious meal provided by my Aunt Michele. We played some draw scrabble and got a good nights rest before driving 10 more hours today to reach Rehoboth Christian School. We were warmly greeted by Dr. Barb Timmermans and a couple teachers from Rehoboth. For dinner we decided to get a bit 'local' and ate at Grandpa's Grill just off of historic Route 66 in Gallup, NM. Needless to say, we got a lot of laughs in and ate a really really good burger. Got the whole sound system set up in about 2 hrs (hopefully its less from here on out!) and ran through some songs. It's going to be a really great trip with great music and praise to our great God! Looking forward to Phoenix Friday and then Cali!
The Trinity 15-passenger van & trailor is on it’s way to Pella, IA with Andy, Zack, Aaron, Vince, and Priscilla for the afternoon drive to Iowa. Tonight we’ll eat as a team (a.k.a. family) for the first time, minus Brittany. We will get Brittany in her hometown of Denver on Tuesday night. We also have a new member of the team - who unfortunately isn’t on the poster or photos yet... his name is Derek De Nooy & he is from Pella and is a great friend and fellow worship team guru. He is running our sound system and helping us with anything and everything on the tour. So grateful for him being able to come with!
