Reciprocal Borrowing
To improve access to library
materials, the Jennie Huizenga Memorial Library is a member of several
library consortia. The purpose of these consortia is to extend the
borrowing privileges of Trinity students and faculty, beyond the walls
of our building. Members may visit any of the cooperating libraries and
check out materials. See below for descriptions of the consortia and lists
of participating libraries.
-
LIBRAS
: An 18-member coalition of private, liberal arts colleges in and around
Chicago that formed an organization for the purposes of resource sharing
and networking.
-
I-SHARE
: I-Share is a shared catalog of 65 academic libraries in Illinois. Trinity
Christian College is a full participant in this consortium and grants reciprocal
library privileges to all member libraries.
-
SMRHEC
: the South Metropolitan Regional Higher Education Consortium is a group
of thirteen colleges and universities that will allow circulating materials
to be borrowed by all holders of a current, valid ID from any other member
library. Patrons (i.e. students, faculty, or staff) must comply with the
lending library's rules and regulations. Services will vary among libraries,
so patrons should contact the lending library to inquire about the types
of services available. Patrons are responsible for returning materials
to the lending library.

Faculty
Services
Place
Items on Reserve
Course reserves are supplemental
materials made available to students through the library's circulation
desk. Reserves can be books, articles or audio-visual materials. They can
check out for periods as short as one hour or as long as one week. The
library is happy to provide this service for students and faculty. In order
to optimize the service, please keep these general guidelines in mind when
placing items on reserve.
-
Requests for reserve items should
be made using the Reserve Material Request
form. Please complete one form for each title.
-
Requests should be submitted
to the Circulation Supervisor before the start of the semester.
At minimum, submit requests one week prior to the date needed by your students.
-
Requests submitted after the
first day of classes will be processed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Every effort will be made to process reserve requests as soon as possible,
however, submissions received after the first day of classes may be delayed.
-
The library is required to uphold
federal copyright regulations which limit what we can and cannot put on
reserve. For example, we can keep a photocopy of a book chapter, but not
a photocopy of the entire book. Questions about the acceptability of reserve
items should be directed to the Circulation Supervisor.
Request Library Instruction
The reference librarian is
available to teach instructional sessions to acquaint your students in
the use of specific library resources, periodicals, databases, the Internet
and other materials needed for course work and research. The librarian
will work with you to design a session that will meet your objectives for
the course or assignment. Instruction sessions are also available on an
individual basis to faculty members. Sessions can take place in your classroom,
the Computer Classroom or the library.
To request a library instruction
session, fill out the Library Instruction
Request form. Questions should be directed to the Reference/Instruction
Librarian. |
