Professional and Personal Interests

Todd Barre is no novice in the field of business and finance. Barre came to Trinity after more than 27 years working in the finance world, with most of those years spent at Harris Bank in Chicago, Illinois.

In his positions over the years, which included working as a fixed income strategist, an investment officer, the head of research, and an investment strategist, “stewardship” has been a constant theme both in his work and in his life. The weight of his many responsibilities in the financial world has led him to have a deeper understanding of monetary resources as belonging to God first and foremost, and to people, secondly.

Now as an instructor at Trinity Christian College, Barre recognizes his responsibility “to prepare our students to have the necessary tools, both from an educational and spiritual basis, to be good, faithful stewards of God’s world.” Barre’s goal in the classroom is to instill in his students an appreciation and determination to use the resources in God’s world wisely, always keeping in mind that all resources (physical, monetary, or otherwise) belong to God.

This drive and passion for being a good steward and for instilling this value in his students comes from Barre’s understanding of what it means to live as a Christian in a broken world. “The fall of man has resulted in a sin-stained world…which we as Christians must in loving obedience attempt to influence through our deeds and actions,” said Barre.

Barre continues to stay connected to the investment world as an Independent Trustee for Invesco PowerShares, an exchange-traded fund family with over $21 billion in assets.

Barre not only takes his value of stewardship into the financial and business sector but sees using God-given gifts and talents for the good of others as vital for the Christian life. As a long-time member of Christ Church of Oak Brook, Illinois, and a supporter of Timothy Christian School, Barre has had the opportunity and passion to serve in dozens of capacities ranging from Sunday school teacher to prayer ministry coordinator to church elder to member of Timothy’s Board of Directors. He has also launched a chess club for elementary and middle school students and has given bridge lessons to many of his former chess students, spending time with them as a mentor and a role model.

He and his wife, Sallie, reside in Elmhurst, Illinois, with their two sons, Matt (who is a Trinity student) and Steven.
