St. Olaf Choir Performs February 12

St. Olaf ChoirTrinity welcomes the St. Olaf Choir and conductor, Anton Armstrong, to the Ozinga Chapel on Friday, February 12, at 7:30 p.m., as they count down to their 100th anniversary on an 18-concert national tour.

The Performance  
The concert will include sacred and secular choral works, both past and present. The choir will open with repertory from the 17th and 18th centuries, and move on to include global expressions in praise of God, drawn from European, Jewish, Arab, Latin American, and North American cultures; choral settings by emerging Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo and American composers Charles Forsberg and Jeffery Ames; and folk songs from Taiwan, settings from African American spirituals, as well as a new arrangement by current St. Olaf student, Stanford Scriven.

More about the choir
The choir was founded in 1912 at St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota, and has since become internationally recognized as a creative force behind America’s a cappella choral tradition. The St. Olaf Choir is the premier choral ensemble of St. Olaf College, and is best known today for its annual internationally broadcast “St. Olaf Christmas Festival” on PBS. The choir has been performing for audiences in major concert halls across the nation and overseas since 1920, as well as being featured in a number of symphonic collaborations. St. Olaf Choir’s annual tours attract audiences totaling 25,000.
