BUILDING THE ARCC

After years of planning for an expanded and contemporary facility, construction is well under way on the much-anticipated Art and Communication Center. Progress is being made daily and can be viewed online via Trinity’s homepage by clicking the “Building the ARCC” banner.

This “monumental achievement,” according to President Steven Timmermans, will provide students with access to new technologies in communication and creative options for theater and art.

The Center’s art department will feature a gallery and space for teaching photography, painting, graphic design and print-making. The Center will house a 200-seat “black box” theater, scene shop, costume shop, green room, makeup studio and light/sound booth. Communication students will be able to use a state-of-the-art computer lab, editing suites, Web broadcasting studios and a broadcast booth.

One of the College’s goals is to also serve the broader community with the art gallery and theater by hosting such events as a community art show, a summer theater company in residence, traveling shows and children’s theater.

The two-story structure is being built along the creek on the east side of campus. Gifts supporting this commitment to education and the arts have provided more than $7 million of the project; it is hoped that the remaining funds will be raised during construction.

Fall 2008 is the anticipated completion date.
