Remembering Dunlap’s at the BBC
On Tuesday, July 29, between the hours of 5 - 8 p.m, the new Bootsma Bookstore Café at Navajo Creek, formerly Dunlap’s, will be offering an expanded menu including the famous Dunlap’s chicken and dumplings, along with other Dunlap’s and BBC favorites. Friends, neighbors, and community members will have an opportunity to visit with some of the Dunlap family and share memories, while enjoying the newly remodeled facilities at Trinity Christian College.
Augusta Dunlap started the restaurant in 1925 and served only sandwiches, hot dogs, and homemade cake. The restaurant quickly gained popularity and became a place where the community could come and enjoy famous signature dishes such as Dunlap’s dumplings, homemade pies, and their famous cheese spread.
The neighborhood restaurant, tucked back in the woods just off Ridgeland and 123rd Street, was purchased by Trinity Christian College in 2005. The building underwent renovations until early 2008 when it was open to students, faculty, staff, and the community as the Bootsma Bookstore Café at Navajo Creek.
"Dunlap’s was a fixture in Palos Heights," said Trinity Christian College President Steve Timmermans, "so the appeal was to find a way we could embrace a neighborhood institution in a manner that respected the area and was consistent with our needs."
The café is located at 6513 West 123rd Street, Palos Heights, Illinois, 60463. For more information, please call 708.239.3976.
