What’s new? This summer Trinity Christian College is offering a wide variety of creative and sports camps – for a variety of ages. Some of the creative camps are offered to children as young as kindergarten level. There are also creative and sports camps offerings up to grade 12. Our summer day camps give children the opportunity to explore their talents and appreciate God's creation, while having fun and learning fundamental skills.
Whether it's hitting the home run, learning new computer skills, or creating art, Trinity's summer camps will help children maximize their abilities. 3-D Art Camp

This camp is for kids who love to build! Campers will learn about the different types of sculpture and have the opportunity to work with different mediums such as clay, paper mache, and wood, to create their own sculptures.
Jennifer Hunter ’04 currently teaches Art, grades K-5, at Chippewa and Navajo Schools in Palos Heights. She enjoys making art and encouraging her students to push the limits in their own art.

Students will explore the world of theater through various exercises, acting games, learning how to audition, and giving feedback from a director’s perspective. They will learn film appreciation, honing skills, such as character development, movement and acting without saying a word, and performing monologues or scenes from famous plays. A final performance will be open to family and friends on Friday, at the end of the camp week, at 3:30 pm
Martha Metcalfe currently teaches at Tall Oaks Christian School in Valparaiso, Indiana. She is certified in the state of Illinois to teach K-9, self-contained, and middle grades Art, Language Arts and Social Sciences. Her acting experience includes performances in South Pacific and The Sound of Music. As an elementary teacher, she has directed seven plays, including titles such a Charlotte’s Web and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Troy Yeager won a People’s Choice Award for Best Actor while playing “Jim Stark” in Rebel Without a Cause at the James Dean Memorial Theatre in Marion, Indiana. He has also appeared in many productions, including Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Wizard of Oz, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Music Man, and Westside Story and has worked behind the scenes on various television networks. Yeager is current sponsoring a drama club at Washington Township High School and Middle School.

ARTWORKS is a program that teaches basic art techniques while providing experience with hands-on projects using a variety of materials. The activities are designed to promote creativity, develop artistic talents, and encourage self-expression.
Michele McGuire has been a teacher and the director of the Orland Park Christian Preschool for the past thirteen years, as well as the coordinator of Sonshine Summer Camp. Michele enjoys encouraging children to develop their unique God-given gifts through art activities and creative expression.
Patte Schonauer has enjoyed teaching art techniques to children for many years. She has taught for a variety of art programs at different locations in the community including Kruse School, Orland Park Christian Reformed Church, and Roseland Christian School. She has always felt that children are the best teachers in life and has learned so much from them!
Crochet Camp

Want to learn how to make cool creations out of yarn? Meet new friends while learning the basics of crocheting. Campers will learn about hooks, stitches, patterns, and yarn. They will finish at least one project and gain enough experience to successfully complete future projects at home. Hooks, yarn, crochet guidebook, and snacks will be provided.
Nikki Bruna has always enjoyed arts and craft projects. She has previous experience teaching the basics of crochet to children and looks forward to sharing her nine years of crochet experience with campers! Nikki is the project coordinator for Trinity’s Social Work Department.
Design It & Build It

This class is designed for children who would like to learn how to draw, paint, and print using a variety of art materials. We will spend the week making our own sketchbooks, developing drawing skills, and working with a variety of drawing media. All materials are included in class fee.

Marlene Boonstra ’81 is currently teaching K-6 art at Timothy Christian School in Elmhurst, Illinois, and is an adjunct professor in the art department at Trinity. She has a Master’s degree in painting and drawing and is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society.

This camp is for anyone who loves to paint. Campers will learn about the lives and art of a few famous painters. After looking at artists’ specific styles, campers will create their own paintings. They will learn painting techniques in water colors, acrylics, and oil pastels.

Frisbee Camps

Session One: Frisbee Golf Camp
Date: June 23-27
Time: 9:00 am-11:30 am
Cost: $80 Frisbee Golf Camp or $135 for both Ultimate Frisbee and Frisbee golf camps
Registration Due: June 2
Campers will learn a combination of different throws that can be used from the tee, fairway, rough, or the putting green. Frisbee golf is a fun leisure activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and athletic backgrounds; no previous skills or experience are required. Campers will have the opportunity to test their skills on a regulation disc golf course in Mokena, Illinois, at the end of the week. Each camper will receive three complimentary discs (driver, mid-range, and putter).
Barbie Heerdt ‘06 teaches health and physical education at Central Middle School in Tinley Park, IL. While at Trinity, she participated in both volleyball and basketball, and played in three NCCAA National Tournaments. In addition, Heerdt is also a member of the Trinity softball coaching staff and the women’s basketball coaching staff that made its first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance in 2007.

LITTLEstars

LITTLEstars wants to encourage young singers to develop their singing and dancing skills while building their confidence and love of performing. The week will consist of putting together a musical revue of vocally appropriate songs including solos and group numbers of popular and classic musical theater songs or medleys. Campers will learn and memorize music, work to blend as an ensemble, incorporate planned choreography, and participate in the creative process. They will be encouraged to express themselves in a safe and positive environment where their self-discipline and focus will be rewarded with a performance at the end of the week that is open to family and friends.
Andrew Seymour has taught elementary music in Berwyn, Illinois, for five years and currently is the Vocal Music teacher at Percy Julian Middle School in Oak Park. He has been co-director for several musical theater productions and now leads a choral program that includes five performing ensembles. Andrew has performed in several productions throughout the Chicago area including the tenor role of the Messiah in 2007 at Trinity International University. He is the tenor section leader at St. John Berchmans Church in Chicago and has been a member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus since 2001.
Lisanne Barnes-Seymour, soprano, has performed several roles recently including the title role of Patience by Gilbert and Sullivan, the “wicked stepsister” Naomi in Massenet’s Cinderella, and Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Barnes-Seymour sang the soprano role in Lightmotif, commissioned for the Ruth Page Dance Company, both at the Ravinia Music Festival and on a regional tour. She has taught private voice for seven years and currently teaches private voice at New Trier High School in Winnetka. Barnes-Seymour is the soprano section leader at St. John Berchmans Church in Chicago and has been a member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus since 2003.
Photography/Scrapbooking Camp

Do you love taking pictures or creating memory books? Campers will spend part of their time learning how to use a camera and take quality photos; the rest of their time will be devoted to organizing their scrapbooks in interesting and creative ways. Campers will have the chance to take photos for two memory books.

Writer's Workshop

Session One: Grades 6-8

Time: 1-4 pm (with exception of Art Institute Field Trip, which will be an all-day activity)

Location: Heritage Science Center - Room 200
Writer’s Workshop is a camp for junior high and high school students who are either writing actively (short stories, poems, and essays) or who are interested in creative writing. Writer’s Workshop will teach campers the writer’s most important job: learning to see the world around them and to use imagination to find insight in things both strange and ordinary. Through a variety of workshop exercises such as free-writing, imitations, peer-editing, class discussion, and many more, campers will learn some of the discipline of writing, sharing and creating work, and create a small ’zine to publish pieces from each participating member. Each camper will be required to purchase a journal for in-class work and have their own writing utensils. Pieces of writing from other writers, along with pieces of art and music, will be used in class. We will also be taking a field trip to the Art Institute as part of our activities (no extra cost).
Allison Backous ’07 graduated with a Bachelors Degree in English and Philosophy. She is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Seattle Pacific University, with a concentration in Creative Nonfiction. She has been leading creative writing workshops with junior high and high school students for the past six years at Bloom Trail High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois and Homewood Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor, Illinois.
