
STUDY FOCUS
By means of the semester program, students will:
1. Further develop and apply skills in communication and/or media.
2. Relate the knowledge base of communication arts to media production and other communication-related projects in a developing country.
3. Acquire cross-cultural understandings and skills through communication and/or media projects.
4. Apply a biblical worldview necessary for the intersection of
communication/media and/or
the Nicaraguan context.
COURSES
NIC 346 Topics in Communication or NIC 348 Topics in Media (3 hr).
NIC 300/400 Field Experience (8 hr). Students will work with the Nehemiah Center staff and Nicaraguan Christian leaders. Students who select the media focus generally have completed Comm 237 (Audio Production) and Comm 238 (Video Production) prior to enrolling in this semester program. Credit towards a department’s major (field education/internship) is granted at the discretion of each department. Students should check with his/her adviser when considering the program.
NIC 399 Independent Study (1hr) The focus on this independent study will be an orientation to the cross-cultural, multidisciplinary development activities of the Nehemiah Center.
In addition, Ave Maria College of the Americas (AMCA) will teach a History of Nicaragua course (3hr) for the semester program.
Through an agreement with Ave Maria College of the Americas, student may take an additional course at AMCA. Prior review of the course by the student’s program adviser is strongly recommended.
Note: A Spanish course at Ave Maria College is required for students who do not have the equivalent of one year of college-level Spanish study.
