Sociology Learning Outcomes

The sociologically imaginative student will:

  1. know major sociological thinkers, theories, and perspectives
  2. understand the critical integration of biblical sensitivity and sociological imagination
  3. apply knowledge of this critical integration into one’s own perspective and analysis of social facts such as status, role, stratification or class, socialization, individual and group behavior, social action, urbanization, ethnicity, and power –  in context of culture and society
  4. conduct social research with appropriate techniques and methods,  e.g., survey, observation, experiment, documentation, effective use of the library, and use of computer applications
  5. identify areas of one’s own specific interest
  6. relate and apply sociological knowledge and analytically deepened faith to a critically engaged sociological interest – based on a knowledge and desire to promote justice, humility, peace, and love
  7. analytically and actively embrace human differences and diversity, as endemic to the human condition and as aspects of the image of God

Throughout the year assessment data is gathered through senior and alumni surveys, field experience evaluations, a major field test, capstone assignments, and course embedded assessments to determine how well the program is meeting its student learning outcomes.
