Theology: 5 Year B.A. to M.Div
“I’m originally from Columbus, Georgia, and grew up in Naperville, Ill. I joined the U.S. Navy in 2010. I have a lot of family who served in the military–my Dad was in the Army, and my Grandpa served in both the Air Force & Army. I joined because I wanted to find my passion and help build myself. I did my boot camp at Naval Station Great Lakes, then spent two years at the Naval Academy in Annapolis training midshipmen. I earned two Navy Achievement medals in my first couple of years, which I’m very
proud of. I finished my service as a Third Class Boatswain’s Mate on the USS Carney, during the first year it integrated women. I did a seven-month deployment working on independent missile defense, and we went to Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Abu Dhabi.
When I came home, I became a certified personal trainer. But I knew I wanted to give back, and I began to feel a call to become a Navy chaplain. I first looked at Trinity for the exercise science program, figuring I would go to seminary after I earned my bachelor’s degree. But then Prof. Jurgens told me about Trinity’s five-year B.A/M.Div. program with Northern Seminary. I talked to Dr. Ribbens, and I started classes here this semester.
In the meantime, I’m doing the reserves to keep myself active with the Navy, and continuing to use my fitness training background.”
