Expand Your Impact with a Diverse Learners Minor
The global community needs teachers who are prepared to educate and guide the diversity of learners found in many classrooms today. Trinity’s Diverse Learners minor prepares our students for teaching those with learning differences and those whose first language is not English.
This minor combines English as a Second Language (ESL)/Bilingual Education (BE) classes with special education courses. Students who complete the Diverse Learners minor receive an ESL or BE endorsement. It represents another possible minor for those seeking elementary, secondary, or K-12 education licensure. The minor can also be paired as a second minor with a content area education minor (English, Science, Social Science) for the Middle Grades Education Major.

With a minor in English Education, you will graduate from Trinity equipped to teach others about the beauty of language and how to become critical readers and careful writers.
Our English Education degree is built on our liberal arts foundation, where you will be exposed to theology, philosophy, history, communications, science, and many other areas that will help you to develop into the teacher and person God is calling you to be.
Launch your future with a minor from Trinity
The growing number of English language learners is transforming our schools. Along with enriching our communities, teachers are also challenged to recognize the unique needs of these students.
In order to prepare teachers for these challenges, Trinity offers a minor in English as a second language/bilingual. This minor meets the State of Illinois requirements of endorsement to work in English as a second language or bilingual education classroom. Students who pursue the bilingual endorsement must take the applicable Target Language Proficiency test.
