Get your pre-professional training in a Christian environment

Some of the career opportunities in the allied health sciences field include:

  • Physician assistant
  • Occupational therapist
  • Anesthesiologist assistant
  • Respiratory therapist
  • Cardiovascular technologist
  • Clinical lab scientist
  • Radiation therapist

  • Perfusionist

At Trinity, you can gain pre-professional training in the context of a Christian community as you prepare for entrance into one of these programs at a professional school in the Chicago area or elsewhere.

Students should work closely with their advisers to ensure that they include all necessary courses required by the schools to which they will apply.

Opportunities that launch

The strong academic quality of Trinity Christian College’s biology, chemistry, and exercise science departments, combined with the faculty’s commitment to post-graduate placements prepare students for a career in physical therapy. A Human Performance Lab provides hands-on exercise testing helpful in preparation for physical therapy school. Trinity has measurable results in placing students in graduate schools.

A Christian frame of reference is the key ingredient in Trinity’s pre-physical therapy program. Professionals in health care deal daily with decisions having religious, moral, and ethical dimensions, including patient concerns with pain and emotional, physical, and spiritual struggles. The connections between these concerns and physical healing are well established. At Trinity, small classes often serve as simulation laboratories where students practice Christian decision-making.

Gain momentum with intensive studies

The pre-physical therapy curriculum at Trinity prepares students for entry into master’s and doctoral degree programs following graduation. The course of study involves biology, chemistry, math, and psychology courses, which are prerequisites for most graduate programs. The Allied Health track of the biology major is designed to meet these prerequisites. Students choosing the exercise science major will need additional course work.

The global community needs you—whether you are interested in pursuing a career in a biology-related field, or you are preparing for entrance into an advanced training program. Trinity offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology to prepare you for your future.

The biology major opens the door to many opportunities, whether you are interested in research, teaching, environmental science, or health. Health-related opportunities include medicine, dentistry, podiatry, optometry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and more.

The Bachelor of Science in Biology major offers three tracks to prepare students for their area of specialization. The below offers examples of what Trinity students can do with a degree that has followed each track. As Trinity offers an education in the Liberal Arts, the below are just some of the many ways Trinity graduates have used their B.S. in Biology to build a life that makes a difference.

After graduation, students who follow the General Biology track:

  • Find jobs where they can apply a general Biology background—this can be anything from pharmacology to research or forensic science to nature conservation and more.
  • Pursue medical school.
  • Enter a graduate school program requiring a general background in biology.

After graduation, students who follow the Environmental and Ecological track:

  • Pursue ecological careers in the area of environmental justice, natural resource management, lab and outdoor research, and government policy advisement.
  • Enter graduate school to pursue ecological post-graduate studies.

After graduation, students who follow the Allied Health Science track:

  • Take post-graduate studies to become physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, or occupational therapists.
  • Pursue medical technology work.
  • Find work or pursue post-graduate studies in other allied-health science-related fields, like athletic training, emergency medical sciences, health administration, and more.

The science minor is recommended for elementary education majors who need exposure to a broad spectrum of science courses.

Let's get you ready with a minor from Trinity

You have a passion for health and science, and a minor from Trinity will get you ready for a range of careers. When you pursued this interdisciplinary degree, you will take courses in biology and chemistry, and you can choose additional requirements in nursing, physical education and psychology.

Teach others to lead a healthy, God-honoring life

At Trinity, a B.A. in exercise sciences focuses on developing hearts, souls, strength, and minds to serve God. Your studies will equip you to embrace and articulate a Christian perspective of physical activity and stewardship of the body that enable lifelong service to the Lord. Our professors view fitness, sports, and leisure from a biblical perspective.

Our rigorous coursework is augmented by stellar facilities. At Trinity, we have a Human Performance Lab that features cutting-edge technology like a BodPod and VO2max testing. In fact, we have one of only seven BodPods in the entire Chicagoland area. This provides incomparable hands-on experience for our students.

With a degree in exercise science, you can develop skills for strength and conditioning or prepare for a career as a personal trainer or fitness specialist. Many of our exercise science majors also leverage their degrees to go on to graduate school for physical therapy.

Our exercise science majors who intend to pursue a career directly after graduation may be able to earn their degrees in just 3.5 years. For those who plan to go on to graduate school for physical therapy, we strongly encourage a minor in science and psychology. There are also opportunities to minor in business administration.

Trinity has transfer agreements with a number of local community colleges for those interested in pursuing an exercise science major.
